iQuavia HG800 Setup & Weekly Pool Maintenance Guide

Quick answer: first-time setup takes about 15 minutes — power on the robot on land, verify the protective caps are sealed, place it near the pool wall and submerge it, and it begins Floor Cleaning mode automatically within 30 seconds. For ongoing maintenance, run Wall+Floor Mode three to four times per week, rinse the 4-liter filter basket after every cycle, and reserve 10 minutes weekly for stairs and water chemistry. For spot cleaning between cycles, use Manual Mode via the remote or Smart Life app to steer the robot directly to any debris while it is submerged.

First-time setup: step by step

Before placing in water:

  1. Place the robot on a flat surface and press the POWER button. It will emit three beeps, wait 3 seconds for IMU calibration, then emit one more beep. The LED flashes yellow — standby mode is ready.

  2. Check that all protective caps (accessory port, charging port) are fully tightened with no gaps. Water entering either port will damage the electronics.

  3. If using the signal buoy: align the 4-pin connector to the DynaSkimmer notch and rotate clockwise to lock. Connect the other end's 5-pin connector to the robot's accessory port the same way.

  4. If using the AC/DC power supply: install it indoors or in a dry location at least 6 feet from the pool wall on a GFCI-protected outlet. Connect the 15-meter cable to the power supply port, then to the robot's accessory port.

  5. If using the Smart Life app: connect the signal buoy or AC/DC power supply to your home WiFi (2.4GHz required) before submerging the robot — you cannot complete pairing once the robot is in the water.

Placing in water:
Gently lower the robot near the pool wall and fully submerge it. Within 30 seconds, Floor Cleaning mode activates automatically.

Setting up the remote:
Install a 9V battery in the remote, slide the power switch on the right side, and pull out the antenna. Hold the remote at approximately a 45-degree angle toward the pool for reliable signal reception.

Choosing the right cleaning mode

Auto Mode via remote (no accessories needed):
Press AUTO CLEAN (button 7) for Full Area Cleaning — floor + walls + waterline sequenced automatically. Press BOTTOM CLEAN (button 9) for floor only. Press WALL CLEAN (button 11) for walls only.

Auto Mode via Smart Life app (signal buoy or AC/DC supply required):
The app offers four modes with different priorities:

  • Wall + Floor Mode (155–160 min) — routine weekly maintenance, full 3-in-1 coverage

  • Deep Floor Mode (150–155 min, 5,460 gal/h suction) — use after storms, parties, or when the pool has been unattended for two or more weeks

  • Wall Mode (130–135 min) — targeted waterline and wall scrubbing before guests arrive

  • Eco Floor Mode (175–180 min) — longest runtime, frequent light-touch maintenance

Manual Mode (spot cleaning):
Switch to Manual Mode on the remote or app. The directional buttons (Forward/Left/Right/Backward) steer the robot in real time while it is underwater via the signal buoy relay. Use this to address a specific debris pocket without running a full cycle — saves battery and time.

The weekly maintenance routine

Three to four times per week — run an auto cycle. Wall+Floor Mode for routine weeks; Deep Floor Mode after heavy use or weather events. Let each cycle complete fully — interrupting mid-cycle breaks the navigation path planning and reduces coverage.

After every cycle — rinse the filter basket. Press OPEN on the top of the robot, lift the filter basket by the handle, remove the two side panels with your thumbs, and rinse with a hose while debris is still wet. Do not let the filter cartridges dry with debris inside — algae residue can permanently clog the 60 U.S. Mesh filter. Reinstall the side panels and basket, close the cover.

After every cycle — retrieve the robot properly. Press PULL ASIDE (button 12) to navigate to the pool edge, then UP WALL (button 8) to park at the waterline. Lift out from the wall — the robot will be heavier when water-filled, so use both hands. Do not leave the robot submerged between sessions; UV and pool chemicals degrade seals over time.

Weekly, 10 minutes of manual work. Brush pool stair treads (the HG800 cannot climb standard vertical-riser stairs), empty skimmer baskets, and test water chemistry. Remove the robot from the pool before adding chlorine, acid, or other chemicals — chemical treatment can damage seals and plastics.

Charging and storage

Charge using only the included adapter (28V DC). Remove the charging port cover, connect the adapter, and charge for 3.5 hours. The charger indicator turns green when complete. Always re-cover the charging port fully after charging.

For seasonal storage: run a final full cycle, clean and completely dry the filter basket and the robot's exterior, store in a cool dry location away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep the battery partially charged (not fully drained) during storage.

FAQ

The robot isn't responding to the remote. What should I check?
Verify the robot is powered on and the remote's 9V battery is installed and the antenna is extended. Hold the remote at a 45-degree angle. If the robot still doesn't respond, turn it off for 30 seconds and restart — the manual identifies software initialization issues as a common cause of non-response.

The robot isn't climbing the walls. What's wrong?
Two common causes: a clogged filter basket reducing suction, or low battery. Clean the filter and charge the robot before trying again.

Can I run the robot while people are in the pool?
No. Keep the pool clear of swimmers during robot operation.

When should I use Deep Floor Mode vs Eco Floor Mode?
Use Deep Floor Mode after any period of heavy debris accumulation (storms, parties, neglect) — its higher 5,460 gal/h suction addresses compacted or matted debris more effectively. Use Eco Floor Mode for regular light-maintenance cycles between deeper cleans — it extends runtime to 175–180 minutes per charge.
